Shortly after upgrading to macOS Tahoe I found that my laptops were consistently slowing down or lock up entirely. This was happening on multiple computers. The issue seemed to be related to the Elgato Stream Deck. But I spoke to other users who were having no issues.

The problem turned out to be a Stream Deck plugin to control the Amphetamine app, which prevents your Mac from sleeping. This plugin has not had an update in two years (or ever based on its version history). With this plugin active Amphetamine was using nearly a gig of RAM when I started noticing slowdown. Removing the plugin allowed both Amphetamine and the Stream Deck software to run without issue. Amphetamine can still be triggered via keyboard shortcuts. So the only functionality lost is having the key on the deck reflect the status of Amphetamine regardless of whether I used the deck to enable it or not. But that is a small price to pay to have system stability back.
